AIBE 2026 exam pattern at a glance
- Conducting body: Bar Council of India (BCI).
- Questions: 100 multiple-choice questions, open book.
- Duration: 3 hours 30 minutes.
- Marking: +1 per correct answer, no negative marking.
- Qualifying marks: General & OBC → 45/100; SC/ST/PwD → 40/100.
Because AIBE is open book and has no negative marking, the exam rewards familiarity and fast retrieval over rote memorisation. The single biggest lever is knowing where each subject’s answer lives — which is exactly what subject-wise practice builds.
The 19 AIBE subjects and their weightage
AIBE is built to a fixed subject-wise weightage. The high-value subjects — Constitutional Law, CrPC, CPC (10 marks each), Family Law, Evidence, IPC and Contract (8 each) — together decide more than half your paper, so they deserve most of your revision time.

A 6-week AIBE study plan
- Weeks 1–2: The big three — Constitution, CrPC, CPC. One subject test each, then re-drill wrong answers.
- Weeks 3–4: Family, Evidence, IPC, Contract. Build your open-book index (bare acts, section numbers) as you go.
- Week 5: The smaller subjects — ADR, Ethics, Labour, Taxation, Company, IPR, Cyber, Environmental.
- Week 6: Two full 100-question mocks under timed, open-book conditions. Aim comfortably above your category cut-off.
