Paper 1 vs Paper 2 — which do you need?
- Paper 1 — to teach Classes 1–5 (primary).
- Paper 2 — to teach Classes 6–8 (elementary). Take the CTET Paper 2 mock.
- Want both levels? Sit both papers. Start from the main CTET practice test.
Each paper is 150 objective questions in 150 minutes, and the qualifying mark is 60% (90/150). There is no negative marking, so attempt everything.
Child Development & Pedagogy — the decisive section
CDP appears in both papers and, along with pedagogy of your subjects, decides most candidates’ result. It covers developmental theories (Piaget, Vygotsky, Kohlberg), learning and motivation, inclusive education, and assessment. It is conceptual, not factual — so practice and reasoning beat rote learning.
Section structure
- Child Development & Pedagogy — 30 questions.
- Language I & Language II — 30 each.
- Paper 1: Mathematics + Environmental Studies. Paper 2: Maths & Science or Social Studies (choose your stream).
How to prepare
- Master CDP first — it is the highest-leverage, most transferable section across both papers.
- Drill subject pedagogy, not just subject content — CTET tests how you would teach, not only what you know.
- Take full timed mocks to build the 150-minute stamina.
