The 2026 pattern in one paragraph
JEE Main Paper 1 has 75 questions — 25 each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, every subject being 20 MCQs plus 5 Numerical-Value Questions, all compulsory. Total 300 marks, 3 hours, +4 for correct and −1 for wrong. It runs in two sessions (January and April) and your best score counts.
High-weightage areas worth prioritising
- Maths: Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Algebra (sequences, complex numbers, matrices) and Vectors & 3D.
- Physics: Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Modern Physics and Heat & Thermodynamics.
- Chemistry: Physical (mole concept, equilibrium, electrochemistry), plus high-return Inorganic and Organic named reactions.
A month-by-month plan
- Months 1–3: NCERT plus a standard reference per subject; lock in every formula and attempt topic questions after each chapter.
- Months 4–8: Previous-year questions and advanced problems; time yourself; master the numerical-value questions where most students lose easy marks.
- Months 9–12: Weekly full-length mocks in the NTA interface, error-log analysis, and targeted revision.
Practise on the real interface
The NTA CBT palette, the marked-for-review states and the numeric keypad all affect your speed on test day. Practise them, not just the physics. Start with the free JEE Main full-length mock, then drill weak chapters from the engineering catalog.
