Know the exam before you plan
NEET UG has 180 compulsory questions across Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology — 720 marks, 3 hours 20 minutes, with +4 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one. Because of negative marking, a smart candidate who attempts 165 questions accurately often outscores one who attempts all 180 and guesses.
Subject strategy: where the marks actually are
- Biology (360 marks) is the deciding subject. Read NCERT line by line — most questions are directly from it. Botany and Zoology together carry half the paper.
- Chemistry (180 marks) is the fastest to score: Inorganic is memory-based, Physical is formula-based, Organic rewards reaction-mechanism practice.
- Physics (180 marks) is where ranks are lost. Focus on Mechanics, Electrodynamics and Modern Physics, and drill numericals until they are automatic.
The 6-month plan
- Months 1–3 — Build: Finish NCERT for all subjects, make short notes, and attempt chapter-wise questions immediately after each chapter.
- Months 4–5 — Practice: Solve 15 years of previous-year questions subject by subject, take timed sectional tests, and keep an error log.
- Month 6 — Mock & revise: One full 180-question mock every 3–4 days under real timing, then analyse accuracy and time per question and revise weak chapters only.
Why full-length mocks matter more than you think
