The Deloitte interview, in brief
Deloitte hires software/tech talent chiefly through its USI (U.S.–India) delivery centres and campus/off-campus analyst programs. The technology track is competency-focused and lighter on algorithmic difficulty than product firms — it screens for baseline competence (coding, OOP, SQL, DBMS) plus strong behavioural / consulting fit. Note the track split: the engineering/technology-analyst track (the SWE-relevant one) emphasises coding and fundamentals, while the consulting BTA track runs case interviews.
A National Level Assessment (NLA) — aptitude, verbal, technical MCQs, and about two coding problems — is the eliminatory online gate, followed by a technical interview (OOP, DBMS/SQL, DSA basics, projects) and a technical + HR / behavioural round (often combined). Behavioural carries significant weight.
Interview rounds
-
1. National Level Assessment (NLA) ~90 min (off-campus up to ~3 hr)
-
2. Technical interview Fundamentals
-
3. Technical + HR / behavioural Often combined
Coding & DSA topics
System design
Generally not a formal deep round for entry-level technology analysts. Object-oriented design and basic SQL / data-model questions appear instead. Experienced/senior tech hires may see architecture discussion, but new-grad analysts are not expected to do full distributed-system design.
Behavioural round
Deloitte weights behavioural signal heavily — weak behavioural answers sink otherwise-strong candidates. The HR round is framed by Deloitte's Shared Values / Purpose (integrity, commitment to each other, serving clients, fostering inclusion), with STAR-format situational answers, plus motivation ("why Deloitte?") and relocation flexibility.
Representative question categories
Patterns in Deloitte’s style — not verbatim proprietary questions.
- Strings — Reversal, ASCII / char printing, pattern / count.
- Arrays — Search, manipulation, missing element.
- SQL — Joins, group-by, aggregates.
- OOP & DBMS — Inheritance/polymorphism; normalization, keys, ACID.
- Aptitude (NLA) — Quant, logical, verbal; programming/testing/cloud MCQs.
- Behavioural (STAR) — Project deep-dive, teamwork, why-Deloitte, a situational scenario.
How to prepare
Do
- Prepare the NLA broadly — aptitude, verbal, technical MCQs (including testing/cloud), and two easy-moderate coding problems.
- Focus the technical round on OOP, DBMS/SQL, and clean basic coding, not heavy optimisation.
- Invest in behavioural / situational answers — they carry high weight at Deloitte.
- Have a genuine "why Deloitte?" and be ready to discuss relocation.
Avoid
- Assuming a hard DSA gauntlet and neglecting the behavioural round.
- Confusing the technology-analyst track with the consulting case-interview track.
- Weak SQL or OOP fundamentals in the technical round.
Who can apply
Campus and off-campus new grads (B.Tech/B.E./MCA and related) for Analyst / Associate-Analyst / Business-Technology-Analyst roles; experienced hires via lateral tech roles. USI is the India delivery arm (Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Gurugram, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata) supporting US member-firm engagements — most tech-analyst SWE hiring flows through USI.
Deloitte interview FAQ
- What is the Deloitte National Level Assessment (NLA)?
- Deloitte USI's eliminatory online assessment for technology-analyst hiring — general aptitude, English/verbal, technical MCQs (coding, debugging, testing, cloud, MS Office), and about two easy-to-moderate coding problems (typically one string and one array).
- What is the difference between Deloitte's tech and consulting interviews?
- The engineering / technology-analyst track (the SWE-relevant one) emphasises coding, SQL, basic algorithms, and object-oriented design. The consulting Business-Technology-Analyst track runs case interviews (case structuring, stakeholders, KPIs). This board models the technology track.
- Is Deloitte's coding round hard?
- No — it is easy-to-moderate and screens for baseline competence and correctness, not heavy optimisation. Behavioural fit and fundamentals (OOP, SQL, DBMS) carry as much weight.
- What is Deloitte USI?
- USI (U.S.–India) is Deloitte's India delivery arm (Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Gurugram, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata) supporting US member-firm engagements. Most technology-analyst SWE hiring in India flows through USI.
