The Nagarro interview, in brief

Nagarro is a global digital-engineering and IT-services company known for one of the more demanding interview funnels among services firms. The process front-loads a timed aptitude-plus-technical MCQ test and a hard data-structures-and-algorithms coding round before you ever speak to an engineer, then adds one or more technical interviews and an HR/culture round. Every stage is an elimination gate: you advance only by clearing the one before it. The bar on coding is genuinely high — candidates consistently report medium-to-hard problems weighted toward trees, graphs, and dynamic programming.

Typically 4-5 rounds, each an elimination gate: (1) an online aptitude + technical MCQ test, (2) an online coding test of DSA problems, (3) one or more technical interviews covering coding, CS fundamentals and design, and (4) an HR / culture-fit round. Screening tests are commonly delivered on the Mercer Mettl platform.

Interview rounds

  • Online aptitude + technical test MCQ, timed (commonly ~40 questions / 60 min)
  • Online coding test Programming, ~5 problems, medium-to-hard
  • Technical interview(s) Live, 1-2 rounds
  • HR / culture round Behavioural

System design

Design is usually moderate in scope. Freshers and early-career candidates more often get low-level / object-oriented design (a parking lot, an elevator, a rate limiter) judged on a clean class model, responsibilities, and SOLID. Experienced candidates may get a moderate system design (URL shortener, chat, notification service) or a Java/Spring service structure, with follow-ups on bottlenecks and trade-offs.

Behavioural round

The HR/culture round reads you against Nagarro's CARING values (Client-centric, Agile, Responsible, Intelligent, Non-hierarchical, Global). Interviewers look for low-ego, high-autonomy engineers who are comfortable with ambiguity and flat, title-agnostic collaboration. Bring specific STAR stories: a project you owned, a hard technical decision, a disagreement you resolved.

Representative question categories

Patterns in Nagarro’s style — not verbatim proprietary questions.

  • DSA codingGiven a binary tree, return the level with the maximum sum; then adapt it to a graph and find the shortest path between two nodes.
  • Dynamic programmingCount the number of distinct ways to decode a digit string, and state the time and space complexity.
  • CS fundamentalsExplain how a deadlock arises and which of the four Coffman conditions you would break to prevent it.
  • DBMS / SQLWrite a query to find the second-highest salary per department, and explain how an index would change the plan.
  • Aptitude / logical reasoningFind the next term in a number series and justify the pattern.
  • Predict the outputWhat does this code snippet print, and why — walk through the evaluation.
  • Low-level designDesign a parking lot: give the classes, their responsibilities, and where you would apply SOLID.
  • Culture fitTell me about a time you drove a decision without waiting for sign-off from above.

How to prepare

Do

  • Treat the coding round as the real gate — grind medium-to-hard trees, graphs, and DP until optimal solutions are automatic.
  • Practise the aptitude section under a clock; logical and numerical reasoning is easy per-question but time-pressured in aggregate.
  • Be fluent at predict-the-output and find-the-bug snippets — these appear in the technical MCQ section.
  • Always state time and space complexity out loud, and improve a brute force to optimal before being asked.
  • Prepare one low-level design (parking lot / elevator / rate limiter) end to end: classes, responsibilities, SOLID, extension points.
  • Have two or three concrete STAR stories ready for the culture round that show ownership and comfort working without hierarchy.

Avoid

  • Underestimating the coding round — brute-force-only solutions rarely clear it.
  • Running out of time on aptitude because you over-invested in early questions.
  • Coding before clarifying constraints and edge cases.
  • Reciting definitions in the fundamentals section instead of reasoning about the mechanism.
  • Naming classes in a design without assigning clear responsibilities or data flow.
  • Answering culture questions in vague "we" terms with no personal contribution or concrete situation.

Who can apply

Varies by role and campus/off-campus channel; commonly a B.E./B.Tech/MCA or equivalent with sound DSA fundamentals. Off-campus applications go through nagarro.com/careers.

Nagarro interview FAQ

How many rounds does Nagarro have for software engineers?
Typically 4-5 elimination rounds: an online aptitude + technical MCQ test, an online coding test, one or more technical interviews, and an HR/culture round. You advance only by clearing each stage.
Is the Nagarro coding round hard?
It is one of the tougher rounds among services companies. Expect medium-to-hard DSA weighted toward trees, graphs, and dynamic programming, with roughly five problems in the online test.
Which programming languages can I use?
C, C++, Java, and Python are commonly permitted; confirm against your specific test instructions.
What platform is the online test on?
Nagarro frequently uses Mercer Mettl for the aptitude, technical, and coding assessments.
What does the culture round assess?
Fit against Nagarro's CARING values — non-hierarchical, low-ego, high-autonomy working — via behavioural questions about ownership, decisions, and collaboration.
