System design
For mid and senior candidates, a high-level design round covers scalable, highly-available fintech systems — sharding/partitioning, database choices, async messaging (e.g. Kafka), and consistency under the payments domain. New grads usually get only a light scalability discussion in the manager round, with machine-coding / LLD carrying the design weight instead.
Behavioural round
The hiring-manager round focuses on engineering ownership and honest technical depth: a project you actually built, a hard technical decision, and how you handled scale or concurrency. STAR structure helps, but the emphasis is on what you personally did and why you designed it that way.
