The Tech Mahindra interview, in brief
Tech Mahindra hires freshers, typically for the Associate Software Engineer (ASE) role and a higher SuperCoder track, through a multi-stage online assessment followed by technical and HR interviews. It is a large-scale recruiter using vendor platforms (commonly AMCAT) with a distinctive AI-based communication/voice assessment. Clearing the coding tier as well as the aptitude tier typically routes candidates to different offer bands.
An online aptitude test (with an essay) is followed by a technical + psychometric test, then an AI-based conversational/communication assessment, then a technical interview and an HR interview. Each stage is an elimination gate; a SuperCoder Challenge exists for top coders.
Interview rounds

1. Online aptitude test ~37 Q / ~70 min
-
2. Technical + psychometric test MCQ + coding + personality

3. AI communication assessment Spoken-English / voice

Coding & DSA topics
System design
Not part of fresher hiring. The technical interview stays at core-CS depth — DBMS/SQL, DSA, OOP, OS, and networking — rather than system design.
Behavioural round
The HR round assesses communication and cultural fit — "why Tech Mahindra?", strengths and weaknesses, handling pressure, teamwork, relocation and shift flexibility, and the service agreement. A separate AI conversational assessment tests spoken English earlier in the funnel.
Representative question categories
Patterns in Tech Mahindra’s style — not verbatim proprietary questions.
- Quantitative — Percentages, ratios, time-speed-distance, profit/loss.
- Logical reasoning — Series, seating arrangements, coding-decoding, syllogisms.
- Essay / writing — A short opinion/argument on a general topic (structure + grammar).
- Pseudocode & output prediction — Trace loops/recursion and data-structure behaviour.
- SQL / DBMS — Joins, normalization (3NF), keys, basic queries.
- AI communication + HR — Read-aloud/repeat/retell; "Why Tech Mahindra?", relocation and shifts.
How to prepare
Do
- Practise the essay — a clear, structured short argument is graded on structure and grammar.
- Drill pseudocode / output-prediction; it is central to the technical MCQ section.
- Take the AI communication assessment seriously — speak clearly for read-aloud, repeat, and retell tasks.
- Revise DBMS normalization (3NF) and the OOP pillars for the interview.
Avoid
- Skipping essay practice and losing structured-writing marks.
- Under-preparing the spoken-English / AI communication round.
- Weak DBMS/SQL answers in the technical interview.
Who can apply
B.E./B.Tech, M.E./M.Tech, MCA, M.Sc (CS/IT/ECE/EEE and allied); norms commonly cite ~60–65% across academics with limited or no standing backlogs. Batch-year and exact thresholds vary by drive.
Tech Mahindra interview FAQ
- What is the Tech Mahindra fresher assessment?

- What is the Tech Mahindra SuperCoder track?
- A higher offer band for top coders — clearing the coding tier (not just aptitude) routes candidates to the SuperCoder band, sometimes via an optional SuperCoder Challenge.
- Does Tech Mahindra have a communication round?
- Yes — a distinctive AI-based conversational / spoken-English assessment testing reading comprehension, sentence repetition, grammar, story-retelling, and spontaneous speaking.
- What does the Tech Mahindra technical interview cover?
- DBMS and SQL queries, DSA and algorithms, the OOP pillars, operating systems, computer networks, testing fundamentals, your primary language, and résumé projects — with normalization (3NF) and OOP pillars common.
