Machine coding is the defining round — a timed, runnable build (a Splitwise, a Snake & Ladder, a calendar/meeting scheduler, a CRUD app with ranking) stressing OO design quality over algorithmic trickery. LLD (design patterns, extensible class design) is expected across levels; HLD (scalable architecture, API + DB schema, resiliency/failover for Swiggy-scale features) is more prominent for SDE-2/3 and lighter for SDE-1.
Behavioural round
The hiring-manager round centres on ownership, impact, project depth, decision-making, and culture fit rather than a named leadership-principles rubric. STAR structure is recommended for experience and behavioural questions.
